Notes and Tips on Ordering Custom Decals
Resolution
For the best quality printing you’ll want a reasonable resolution. For any of the styles and sizes in this listing, we recommend at least 600px x 600px. Try to go for 1000px x 1000px if you’re getting the 28mm Army sheet to ensure the larger icons on the sheet are crisp and clear.
Format / Background
Make sure that you’re images have a transparent background. This means that, for example, if your icon is star-shaped, it doesn’t have a white or colored field around it.
Aspect Ratio
With the way the templates for these layouts work, the icons each have a square area to print in. This doesn’t mean that your icon needs to be square, but it does mean that icons that are wider or taller will have extra space on the sides or top/bottom.
Fine Lines and Outlines
If your design includes fine lines and thin outlines, color choice can play a big part in the quality of the final print. Outlines and fine lines can be printed in any color, but we highly recommend using white or black where possible. Those colors contrast best and show up well on especially fine lines. Also keep in mind that even though your outlines may look oversized on your screen, your decals may be printed as small as 3mm across making those lines very, very small.
Gradients and Pastels
Some colors and color formations don’t yield quite as clean a result. Gradients are smooth transitions from one color to another. Those types of transitions frequently require halftone dots. These are small enough that on the tabletop, they are invisible, but with close inspection or high-res photography, they are more apparent. The same sort of effect happens with pastel colors. Pastel colors have a large amount of white mixed with them and frequently use these same halftone dots to achieve the desired color. While Gradients and pastel colors WILL print, using more solid color will yield a cleaner result.

Do NOT submit copyrighted materials for printing. We will never knowingly print copyrighted or trademarked materials. There are plenty of ways to create or get great icons that don’t involve IP infringement. If you have questions or need help, please reach out to us before placing your order.
